Wishlist Updated…

Sunday, November 28th, 2004

For the family members, or others who come here, I have updated my wishlist for christmas this year. I’ve added some more categories, especially a new books section due to the “* Hacks” set of books released by O’Reilly. Also note the addition of a MiniDV or MiniDVD camcorder, in case anyone has [...]

Gentoo: XVnc Server Howto Problem…

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004

For some time I’ve been making use of the wonderful Xvnc Terminal Server Howto created by LinuxReviews.org (I think ever since they were still at reviewed.homelinux.org). Unfortunately it appears as if the most recent update to pam from the gentoo portage has created an authentication issue. In my case I was able to [...]

My Inner Daemon

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004

Well, I think my first test of FreeBSD, so far, has been a complete success. As I said, the original task for the machine was a very simple Apache server to run Cacti to better monitor my LAN at work. At first it was a little bit of a task, in terms of [...]

More Half Life 2 Screenshots…

Sunday, November 21st, 2004

Just added another 105 Half Life 2 Screenshots to the photo gallery. Unfortunately for some reason the “sort by file date” seems to be kinda funky, so they are somewhat in order but not totally… I have absolutely no idea how far I am in the game. I do find so far [...]

Photo Gallery Status…

Friday, November 19th, 2004

I just wanted to shoot out a reminder to everyone that the photo gallery is not complete. I have a couple people email me about this, as there are only like a couple pictures in “Friends” for example. Well I’m still working on getting everything over to the new server. The majority [...]

Walking among Daemon’s

Friday, November 19th, 2004

Today I began my first foray into the world of BSD, FreeBSD 5.3 to be exact. After having read on Distrowatch.com that they migrated their server over from FreeBSD, I decided to give it a try. They noted their biggest reasons being the long support cycle, while not being 1-2 years behind on [...]

Gentoo 2004.3

Wednesday, November 17th, 2004

I know, I know… This has been out for half a week already, but I thought I’d go ahead and post a quickie mentioning a noticable improvement that I found with the latest release. Grub’s ability to properly see SATA drives, allowing for installation that followes the Gentoo Installation Handbook. Previously, on [...]

The wait is finally over!! HL2 is HERE!

Wednesday, November 17th, 2004

Many gamers around the world rejoice as the release of Half Life 2 has finally become a reality. Despite all the setbacks, from legal to technical, the final product is sitting, unlocked that is, on my hard drive. This morning, just before my wife’s appointment for the ultrasound, steam started unlocking the gig [...]

Baby’s First Pictures…

Tuesday, November 16th, 2004

Roller-coaster. That is the only word that can describe how this week has been, despite the fact that it’s only Tuesday. Yesterday, Lena and I were informed that the bloodwork that we opted for, to check for things line downs syndrome and other issues, came up abnormal for downs syndrome. Of course [...]

Saw…

Wednesday, November 10th, 2004

I noticed that I haven’t recently posted anything about the movies that I’ve seen so I thought I’d go ahead and do a quickie about “Saw”. While many people were trying to convince me to see “The Grudge” instead, I felt, just from the trailers, that Saw appeared to appeal more towards the type of horror I prefer. I’m one of those who love what I call “mind-fucks” (excuse my french), where – even through your guesses and assumptions – you felt like you have been played with by the end of the movie. Now what is even better is when it relates to a horror flick… So movies like “The Ring”, “Sixth Sense”, and etc are on the top of my list.
