That did it, as I just emerged alsa-utils, still set all the appropriate settings and everything worked out just fine… So later on I’ll be trying to figure out why that keeps failing (might be this version isn’t set for dealing with 2.6.5, but I didn’t see any hunk failed messages in the [...]

I injected it… don’t feel like dealing with it… I can mess with that later as I doubt that will affect my ability to use the modules built into the kernel… they just might not be as up to date…
