“Analog Hole” And The Distruction of Your Rights as a Consumer

Here it comes people. Every right you ever thought you had in regards to the way you listen to music and watch movies is going to be threated very shortly! The “Analog Hole” or “Digital Transition Content Security Act of 2005” sponsored by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) has formally been introduced, which makes DCMA sound like a play toy. Simply put they want to include a copyright information in any broadcasted, or recorded content, with the following options:

Copy Prohibited Content, which would mark the transmission as off limits for copying or recording of any kind
Copy Unlimited No Redistribution Content, which means that the analog content could be passed through to a digital device for copying, but redistribution would be limited
Copy One Generation Content, which would allow viewers to make a single generation of copies
No Technical Protection Applied, programming that could still be recorded.

When it really comes down to it the concept of “fair use” is out the window on this, or if you want any sort of fair use, your going to have to pay through the nose for it. I hope people keep an eye on this one because if could forever change how you listen or watch the movies you like (or how much your going to have to pay to get it). Once I get some time I hope to read into this a little more and possibly get involved in what ever petition campain that I’m sure is going be started, if it already hasn’t…
